Council for Amusement and Recreational Equipment Safety

Child Safety

Parents play an important role in helping young children safely choose and use amusement rides.

Take additional safety precautions for your children, especially small children, when visiting amusement parks, carnivals or other events where rides and inflatable devices are set up.

  • Parents should know their child's capabilities and limitations with regard to whether the ride is appropriate for them.
  • Parents should watch the ride in operation before entering to make sure their child can ride it safely.
  • Parents should remind their child of Ride Safety DOs and DON'Ts.
  • Parents should remind their child to stay seated, hold on to safety bars and obey the ride operator's instructions.
  • Parents should designate an easily recognizable place to meet their child after the ride is over.
  • Parents should supervise their child at all times.
